![]() ![]() I am pretty sure I will make the plunge as I know I would end up loving it. I keep looking at the 50mm but then find myself undecided. Mine are always candid as I haven't really dabbled too much with serious portraits as of yet. I love it for really tight portraits as well. I am still getting to know it well but it is indeed love! I definetly plan on getting the nifty fifty, it sounds like a great lens that i can actually afford! I'm limiting my involvement with EF-S as I'm going to be placing an order for a 5D here in a week or two ( once the fall rebates kick up).įor me, real macro work is much better on the 100mm not only for the added focal length but also for the wider focus ring, the AF distance limiter, etc. That said I'll keep my 100mm, as the 60mm is an EF-S digtal crop factor only lens. The 100mm macro is a bit long for head and shoulder portraits at closer or for me normal range I shoot at on an APS-C 1.6x crop factor camera such as the Rebel or 30D/40D. On a 1.6x body, think this lens is too long for portraits? i read that its good for portraits, but i dont know its thats on FF or 1.6x, i hear the 60mm efs is good for portraits and macro, but the 100mm has gotten better reviews/better bang for the buck.Īnother good portrait lens is the 50mm f1.8 It's super cheap but has great bokeh. I love the 100mm, and it works fine on a crop body. does any one find this lens too long on a cropped body (30D)? I'm debating between this and the canon 60mm. It's fine on a crop factor body, in fact I think it's almost better as it gets you a longer focal length. I have a XTI and it works wonderfull on it Javier Díaz Photos edited this topic ages ago. This was taken with the 100mm f/2.8 Macro on the 5D, but results (color, sharpness, bokeh) are the same with the XTi (I had one and used my 100mm Macro with it). you could still lend it to me though, im in new jersey Trouble is you'd probably fall in love with it and I'd never get it back!ĭemetris your everywhere on flickr, at least in all my discussions, most of them. If you were in London I'd lend you mine for a test. In reality its still 1:1 but a 22 mm long object will fill your complete frame. Compared to full frame you get the equivalent of 1.6:1 magnification. Thanks to the cropped sensor you get more magnification. Not fast AF but it's a macro so MF is the way to go. ![]() The Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro is a great lens on any body: full frame or 40D or XTI. 100mm give you a bit more working distance, thats a benefit!ītw Compared to 35mm film standard it would be 160mm, thats the differense It's dof is different from the EF-S 60mm I consider this as a plus.īut try it on, try them both in a shop and see what you like. The crop factor you dont need to think of, but if you one day move towards 1.3 or full frame then yes this lens will still travel with you :) out of the Canon range a lot of people consider this as the best macro lens. Im getting a 40D or xti, havent decided yet, but ill need a macro lense eventually, and i know the 100mm isnt ef-s so dont really know what happens when you use ef lenses on 1.6x bodies. How does the 100mm 2.8 do with 1.6x crop bodies? ![]()
